This RFP represented a huge opportunity, but based on our competitive analysis, we also were starting from a huge, institutional disadvantage. The RFP pushed us to think of new, innovative ways to build our response, challenge the issuing organization's assumptions and redirect them in a way that was both honest and put us on stronger footing. While the bid was eventually awarded to the incumbent provider, we were able to stand above a very crowded field and had several back-and-forth conversations post submission. In my first role writing RFPs, there were no standard procedures or processes to follow. Once in the RFP Manager position, I wrote a comprehensive guide to make sure all stakeholders had clear, comprehensive instructions for how to manage the RFP process from beginning to end.
